Rebuilding Black Mountain with a Vision for the Future

At Rebuild Black Mountain, we believe that recovery isn’t just about repairing what was lost.

We are building for the future—a future where Black Mountain, Montreat, and surrounding areas thrive economically, socially, and environmentally.

By restoring outdoor recreation infrastructure - the backbone of our local economy and community health - we aim to create long-term resilience for our town and its people.

Tourism is essential to Buncombe County’s economy, contributing 20% of the local economy and supporting 14% of jobs. Rebuilding these outdoor spaces is critical to the economic recovery of our community and the well-being of local families and businesses. We cannot rebuild our economy without restoring the outdoor spaces that drive tourism.

We are committed to working closely with government agencies, nonprofits, and local organizations to ensure that every dollar we raise is maximized for impact. This collaborative approach allows us to target areas where funding is most needed, building on the foundation of support already provided through emergency response. Together, we are closing critical gaps in resources and ensuring the sustainable recovery and long-term strength of Black Mountain and Western North Carolina.

Core Goals:

  • Economic Recovery through Outdoor Recreation: Restoring our trails, parks, playgrounds, and public spaces ensures local businesses, tourism, and families can thrive once again. By investing in these outdoor spaces, we are securing the livelihoods of our community and strengthening the foundation of our economy.

  • Sustainability for Future Generations: We are committed to rebuilding in ways that honor our environment, ensuring that Black Mountain, Montreat, and surrounding areas remain a place of natural beauty for generations to come.

  • Community-Driven Solutions: This effort is led by people who live and love Black Mountain, Montreat, and the surrounding areas. Our work is focused on what matters most to us—our home, our environment, and our people. As we rebuild, we listen to the community and adjust our goals and programs based on their needs, ensuring that our efforts reflect the priorities of Western North Carolina.
