Rebuilding Black Mountain and Beyond: Investing in Long-Term Recovery and Growth

At Rebuild Black Mountain, we believe that recovery is not just about addressing the immediate aftermath of a disaster—it’s about building a foundation for the future. Our Western North Carolina Outdoor Recreation & Community Fund of The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina is a donor-advised fund focused on the long-term recovery, sustainability, and economic growth of Black Mountain and the greater Western North Carolina region.

We are a philanthropic effort and our vision is centered on lasting solutions. By rebuilding our outdoor recreation infrastructure, we are investing in the long-term economic recovery that will ensure our community thrives for generations to come. Tourism accounts for 20% of Buncombe County’s economy and supports 14% of the local jobs—we cannot rebuild our economy without restoring the outdoor spaces that drive tourism.

Why Your Support Matters:

Outdoor recreation is the backbone of Black Mountain’s economy. Our trails, parks, and public spaces are not only beloved by residents and visitors, but they also play a vital role in supporting small businesses and local families who depend on tourism. Without these spaces, our community cannot recover economically.

Your donation is an investment in the future of Black Mountain, Montreat, and the surrounding areas. It will help us rebuild the outdoor experiences that make our town such a unique and cherished destination. As tourism plays a crucial role in our economy, your support is vital to ensuring the community and businesses that rely on it can flourish once again.

How We are Different:

We are a local-led effort committed to long-term recovery, not just temporary relief. Transparency is at the core of everything we do. We promise to share clear, detailed updates on where donations go and how they are used to create impact. Our collaborative approach also ensures that our goals and funding priorities will evolve based on what the community tells us is most important.

We are proud to partner with the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina (CFWNC), a 46-year-old nonprofit that knows this community deeply. Rebuilding happens at the speed of trust, and CFWNC has earned ours through decades of service. While organizations like FEMA provide critical emergency assistance, our focus is on community-driven solutions that endure.

We are committed to working in partnership with government agencies, nonprofits, and community organizations to ensure that every dollar we raise is used effectively and fills critical funding gaps. Guided by comprehensive needs assessments and a strategic framework, we align our efforts with the long-term recovery goals of our community and partners.

By working together, we ensure resources are directed where they are most needed, building on the support already provided by emergency response efforts. This collaborative approach targets key funding gaps and contributes to the sustainable recovery and long-term resilience of Black Mountain and Western North Carolina.
